Mammoth

Howard Christian is a multi-billionaire. What he wants, he gets. He has decided
that with a frozen mammoth, and a bit of IVF, he'll be able to recreate mammoths
as living breathing animals.
He is quite probably right about this. Unfortunately the unexpected appearance
of a time machine, and herd of mammoths stampeding through Los Angeles, rather
complicate his plans.
He knows who has caused his problems: Matt Wright, temporal scientist and his
veterinarian girlfriend Susan Morgan.
He's going to make sure they do not get away with it.
Well, this is a lovely story for a teenager. It's well written, well plotted,
thought-provoking at times and great fun. I enjoyed reading it but it's not
the John Varley I remember. It's not an "Ophiuchi Hotline" or even a "Demon".
